Dakar 2011 is About to Start
Four crews of the team KAMAZ-master will take part in the Dakar 2011 international rally-raid which will start on the first day of the new year in the city of Buenos Aires. All in all, the 33rd off-road marathon which will take place in South America for the third time, will host 6 KAMAZ trucks: two more vehicles were prepared by KAMAZ experts for "clients" international crews of teams "Astana" and X-Raid. It is the first time that KAMAZ represents so many sports race vehicles at "Dakar" at a time. Already in the middle of November these racing trucks and also five servicing vehicles and one jeep of support were sent by the team "KAMAZ-MASTER" to the French port Havre to be transported by a sea ferry to the opposite coast of the Atlantic Ocean. On December, 27th (Monday), all the vehicles of KAMAZ and other European participants of the rally-raid will be delivered to the capital of Argentina. Then, within three days, representatives of the teams will drive their vehicles into a closed park located in the centre of Buenos Aires. On the last two days of the year the organizers of the rally will spend a technical and administrative check in all classes of the automobile and motorcycle technics declared for participation in "Dakar-2011". The race drivers of KAMAZ are going to the place of start of the rally-raid today, on December, 27th, after a traditional press conference in the capital of Russia. The meeting of the head of the team Simeon Yakubov and the four pilots of the fighting crews Vladimir Chagin, Firdaus Kabirov, Ilgizar Mardeev and Edward Nikolaev with the Moscow journalists will take place at an office of the news agency "Interfax" in 1st Tverskaya-Jamskaya Street (metro station "Majakovskaya"). Three sports crews of the team "KAMAZ-MASTER" of the four declared will be headed by time-tested Dakar leaders pilots Vladimir Chagin, Firdaus Kabirov and Ilgizar Mardeev. Sergey Savostin will be again the navigator in the crew of "Tsar" (the nickname of Vladimir Chagin, a sixfold champion of Dakar race), and Ildar Shajsultanov will be the mechanic. Firdaus Kabirovs crew structure did not change: navigator Aydar Beljaev and mechanic Andrey Mokeev will participate in the race together with their pilot - a twofold Dakar winner. The crew of Ilgizar Mardeev, a silver prize-winner of Dakar 2007, is his family tandem with his son Ajrat as the mechanic, and Vladimir Demjanenko will be their navigator. As it was promised by Simeon Yakubov earlier, the youth trio of "KAMAZ-MASTER" will take part in the race: pilot Edward Nikolaev, navigator Vyacheslav Mizjukaev and mechanic Vladimir Rybakov. The boys have deserved the right to debut on "Dakar" by their victory in off-road rally the Silk way-2010 on a route St.-Petersburg Sochi. The general extent of "Dakar-2011" route will make about 9 thousand km and will increase by 800 km as compared to the distance really passed on the previous rally. And besides, this time there will be only 14 stages one stage less than last year. In other words, the stages will be more extended and exhausting. And the route becomes much more difficult: 70 % of the route is laid in the district absolutely unfamiliar to the racers; there are more sandy sites with fine sand-dust "fesh-fesh" where one can sink as deep as half a meter and even more. And sandy barkhans of the Atacama, the droughtiest desert on our planet, are known to be the highest in the world. And it is possible to go only on their tops: unintentionally having gone downhill, you risk to get stuck, as racers say, for ever. On the border of Argentina and Chile the crews and their technics will have to overcome unknown heights up to 4800 metres. This time the rally caravan will reach the extreme northern point on the map of Chile, coming as nearly as possible to the equator on the territory of this country. The city of Arika has been known to our football fans since 1962, when the USSR national team took part in the World championship. And the race will take place in the midst of summer on the South American continent when the day temperature is over 50 degrees Celsius. Nevertheless, the forthcoming difficulties and trials have not frightened the amateurs and professionals of the most extreme racing sport off-road races. The quantity of those wishing to check themselves up by the marathon lines has considerably increased. "Dakar-2011" will host 430 crews and single racers and corresponding quantity of racing vehicles, which is by 68 units more than in 2010. Among them there are 68 crews on trucks against 52 on "Dakar-2010". The company MAN, a German manufacturer of trucks, one of the main contenders of the team "KAMAZ-MASTER" in previous years, has returned to the race. After a serious injury Gerard de Rooy is again racing on his IVECO. The young Dutchman supported by his father Jan de Rooy has been trying to take the Dakar crown away from the Russian crews for the last ten years. The Czech crews on Tatra and LIAZ have also strengthened themselves with new technics. The Dutch-Belgian, French, German, Austrian and mixed international crews on GINAF, DAF, Mercedes, Renault, IVECO and other trucks have gained experience and skill. In this class you can expect hard battles from the first stages and up to the finish on January, 15th in Buenos Aires.
