Sainz and Nikolaev are the winnwrs
Yesterday the city of Sochi, the capital of following winter Olympic Games hosted the participants of the rally Silk Way-2010 of Dakar series. The crews had passed 2014 km. to find themselves at last on the shore of the Black sea. On September, 17th the bivouac of the racers in the city of Maikop was visited by Vladimir Putin, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, who wished good luck to the racers on the last but uneasy special stage. After the last 16 km the leaders in both categories did not change: Carlos Sainz and Edward Nikolaev managed to hold their positions. A considerable quantity of fords did not frighten Carlos Sainz. The leader of the general offset confirmed his status. Nasser al Attiyah made all he could to win the stage for the third time. And he did it. Nevertheless, the Spaniard kept the first place and became the winner of the rally Silk Way for the second time. Experts could predict the struggle between the two teammates of Volkswagen - Carlos Sainz and Nasser al Attiyah. But during the race the duet turned into a trio: Giniel De Villiers joined the leaders. It is known that if you want to win a marathon it is necessary to be very attentive, and besides, this year the route was very difficult. Sainz managed to make fewer mistakes than others. And it brought him this victory. Nasser al Attiyah needs training his navigating skills to come nearer to the Spaniard in the following Dakar races. The struggle for the fourth place was just as interesting. Boris Gadasin at the wheel of his G-Force Proto impressed everybody, but, unfortunately, he had to leave the race earlier. Up to the last stage the Russian racer Alexander Mironenko was the closest persecutor of the Volkswagen team. But, by mischance, he had an unforeseen accident 16 km before the finish - the engine broke down. As a result Mironenko finished the race on tow. Thus, Mattias Kahle from Germany took the fourth place in the general offset, coming 6 hours and 50 minutes after Sainz. The crew of Frederick Shevini and Jean Brucie on Nissane Dessoude, the only French crew remaining in the race, became the sixth in the general offset and best in 2 category. It seems, the team "KAMAZ-MASTER" has turned a new page of its history: they again managed to put all their trucks on the prize-winning podium. Vladimir Chagin, the sixfold champion of Dakar, begun the race with victories at stages, but later his main competitor Firdaus Kabirov managed to overcome him. And the result of 26-year-old racer Edward Nikolaev became an unexpected surprise for spectators. He managed to overtake his teachers and head the race. He was the only one who was not mistaken in the critical point, while Chagin and Kabirov had been searching it for a long time. Nikolaev has already participated in a Dakar race as a member of Vladimir Chagin's crew and this year is going to return, but already as an independent racer. The struggle for the fourth place in the category of trucks developed between Franz Echter on MAN and Ales Loprais on Tatra. As a result the Czech racer outstripped the German at the last-but-one stage. Having made numerous errors in navigation Loprais passed more than 2014 km of the track line of Silk way. On the following Dakar we can wish good luck to racers of the teams of De Rooy, Pep Vila and Hugo Duisters who had bad luck in this race. They took the tenth and the thirteenth places in the general offset accordingly.
