The Future of Automotive industry
To draw attention to vehicles running on compressed natural gas (methane) that was the main objective of the rally Blue corridor 2011 which took its start a few days ago in Prague and ended on June, 8th in the city of Greifswald (Germany). The leitmotif of the rally which would advance gas-engine machinery is quite actual for the European countries. Increasingly rigid requirements to environmental norms are forcing motor-vehicle manufacturers to search for alternative kinds of fuel as opposed to traditional ones gasoline and diesel. Interest to gas as to an energy source for vehicles, opens new prospects before manufacturers of commercial vehicles. Due to the introduction of new European standards it is forbidden for many models of heavy equipment to carry out works within the boundaries of settlements. This is the problem which is to be solved by vehicles running on methane. It is not by chance, that a Russian medium-duty truck KAMAZ-4308 took part in the rally. KAMAZ has been developing perspective models of trucks, capable to run on methane. The rally proved that experience of the company in manufacture of gas engines for commercial vehicles does not yield to the European companies. Russian KAMAZ trucks with their gas configuration can compete on equal terms with best European brands in the automobile market.
